How Thick is the Apple Watch? Analyzing The Pictures!

When Apple announced the Apple Watch, they gave us little specs, maybe due to the Apple Watch not actually being finished, or due to the fact that it won't be released until "early 2015".
The only size details we really know is that the Apple Watch will come in two versions, a 38 mm and 42 mm. These sizes are the height of the watches, apparently from metal to metal. No details were given about the thickness.

So I thought I'd see if I could analyze the photos from the Apple website to determine the thickness of the Apple Watches.

Using the image above image of the Apple Watch, which seems to show the 42 mm Apple Watch, I thought it should be an easy estimate, that is, if the image on the Apple site is of correct proportions.

We know that the height of the watches are 42 mm and 38 mm, so then, that also must be the length of the sides (seen in the photo).

By cropping images of the different size watches precisely and re-sizing the width, it automatically gives me the height of 12.31 mm on the 42 mm (sensor included), and around 10.35 mm without the sensor, and 12.27 mm for the 38 mm Apple Watch, 10.65 mm without the sensor.

So to recap my results:

- 42 mm Apple Watch is: 42 x 12.31 mm.
- 38 mm Apple Watch is: 38 x 12.27 mm

These numbers may not be 100% accurate, but judging by the images on the Apple website and doing a quick re-size using what we know, the height as the sides length, it may be a pretty close estimate.
